BYD launches Song L electric SUV at reduced price

Chinese automaker, BYD (SZ:002594) has officially launched their Song L battery electric SUV. The vehicle’s release came with a notably reduced initial price compared to its pre-sale, highlighting the escalating rivalry within China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) market.

The Song L’s official price announced Friday is RMB 30,200 ($4,250) lower than the pre-sale starting price.

The Song L offers five versions, all as battery electric vehicles (BEVs), priced at RMB 189,800 ($26,700), RMB 199,800, RMB 209,800, RMB 229,800, and RMB 249,800, respectively.

BYD initially introduced the Song L concept at the Shanghai auto show in April and later showcased its production version in August. This model is part of BYD’s Dynasty series within its broader model range that includes the Dynasty and Ocean series.

Pre-sales for the Song L began on October 31, featuring five versions priced at RMB 220,000, RMB 240,000, RMB 240,000, RMB 260,000, and RMB 280,000 respectively.

The Song L’s official price announced today is RMB 30,200 ($4,250) lower than its initial pre-sale starting price.

According to analysts, since the beginning of pre-sales until now, the Song L has accumulated more than 28,000 pre-orders.

In November, BYD sold a total of 301,903 New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), which consisted of 301,378 passenger NEVs and 525 commercial NEVs, based on the figures disclosed earlier this month.

Among the sales, the Song family models stood out as the top-selling BYD model, with 61,694 units sold in November, representing 20% of the total sales.
