India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.30%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Consumer Durables and Metals sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.30% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.28%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which rose 4.32% or 109.00 points to trade at 2,634.20 at the close. Meanwhile, JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) added 2.36% or 16.90 points to end at 732.55 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was up 1.76% or 19.40 points to 1,121.15 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK), which fell 1.44% or 17.25 points to trade at 1,180.60 at the close. Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) declined 1.26% or 20.85 points to end at 1,632.00 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) was down 1.15% or 2.65 points to 227.20.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 4.27% to 2,633.40, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 1.46% to settle at 1,049.15 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which gained 1.32% to close at 20,081.80.

The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 1.50% to 1,180.00 in late trade, Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which lost 1.27% to settle at 1,632.20 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 0.98% to 8,916.65 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1037 to 837 and 77 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1731 fell and 1624 advanced, while 147 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.37% to 13.61.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.80% or 14.00 to $1,754.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.38% or 1.84 to hit $79.08 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.48% or 2.08 to trade at $85.97 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.08% to 81.70, while EUR/INR rose 0.49% to 84.80.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.43% at 106.18.
